Getting to Know Coach Luke

Can you share your path into the fitness industry?
Throughout much of my childhood, I was actively involved in various sports, which kept me engaged and fit. My true passion ignited around the age of 17 when I discovered strength training. This practice instilled in me a profound sense of empowerment, showing me that I had the ability to reshape my physique—something I had long been conscious of due to my tall, slender build.
Upon completing high school, I seriously considered pursuing a degree in law. However, I opted for a gap year instead, taking on a variety of jobs to gain some real-world experience. During that time, I learned about university programs centered around exercise and physical activity. Excited by this revelation, I enrolled in a degree combining human movement studies with business management.
Following my university graduation, I spent several years working as a personal trainer, honing my skills with individual clients. From there, it felt like a seamless transition to collaborate with like-minded professionals and expand my impact in the field.
What brought you to join the Team Body Project as a trainer?
One of my colleagues at Team Body Project, fellow coach Daniel, extended an invitation for me to join him in leading a workout session on camera. I eagerly accepted the opportunity, even though I was essentially a newcomer to being filmed in such a setting.
What is your personal approach to wellness, and how does it resonate with Team Body Project's principles?
My daily routine revolves around incorporating movement on most days without turning it into an all-consuming obsession. Beyond physical activity, I prioritize quality sleep, nourishing whole-food-based nutrition, dedicated time for relaxation and mental decompression, quality moments with family, ongoing personal growth, and plenty of time spent in outdoor environments.
At my core, I believe we thrive when we maintain strong connections with fellow humans, the wholesome foods we consume, and the natural world surrounding us. This involves challenging our bodies through diverse movements: lifting heavy weights, tackling demanding exercises, utilizing bodyweight resistance, and infusing elements of enjoyment into the process.
While I appreciate having a structured training plan, I also value leaving space for intuitive decisions, variety in routines, and attentively responding to what my body communicates. Striking this balance comes with time and accumulated experience in the fitness world.
This outlook aligns seamlessly with the ethos of Team Body Project. A cornerstone of my daily messaging is the emphasis on consistency, committing to show up for oneself, and delivering one's utmost effort given the circumstances of the day. In essence, it's about embracing progress over the pursuit of unattainable perfection.
What are your aspirations looking toward the future?
Over the next few years, my objectives are thoughtfully divided across professional development, personal health maintenance, and nurturing key relationships. I feel deeply content with my current standing in each of these areas, so my focus remains on savoring the everyday routines and processes that bring fulfillment. There's always room for improvement, and a healthy dose of constructive dissatisfaction can fuel meaningful advancement. That said, any growth I pursue must stem from a foundation of positivity and presence in the moment.
A fundamental principle I hold dear is the commitment to lifelong learning. To honor this, I dedicate at least 10 to 15 minutes each day to immersing myself in books on self-improvement or professional enhancement topics. Complementing this habit, I regularly tune into podcasts that expand my knowledge. Additionally, I make it a point to complete at least one in-depth course annually, targeting areas where I identify opportunities for skill refinement.
